Many are watching the conflict in Israel with fear and uncertainty as the number of deaths
increases and the violence continues.  "Why should I feel concern with the land of Israel?"   It is
no coincidence that the violence in the Middle East has heightened on the
17th of Tammuz, a
day of negativity, according to the kabbalists.  Throughout the year and especially on times like
the 17th of Tammuz, world events are affected by our own negativity or positively.  If we want to
see peace in Israel, we must reveal peace in our own lives.

The Zohar Project material states:  "Rav Berg has said on many occasions, 'As goes Israel so
goes the World.' The Zohar states that 'Israel is the heart and the rest of the world corresponds
to the organs of the body.' In the same way the heart furnishes blood to the body, Israel
furnishes Light to the rest of the world. When there is a lack of blood flow in the human body
heart attacks can occur. Similarly, when there is a lack of Light in the body of the world, hatred,
terrorist attacks and war occur.  [If we want peace in the world], it is imperative that we inject
Light into the region." (1)

Various places on the planet have their own unique emanation of energy.  It is true that Light fills
all Creation, but it flows from Israel. Imagine a pool... full of water, but there is a fountainhead
where the water originated.  In the same way, the Light is all-present, but its connection to the
physical world originates in Israel. Think of when you were a kid.  Imagine playing in a pool while
someone directed a hose toward the pool and the water arched upward.  As that child... did you
run from the stream of water or did you run towards it, gleefully playing as the water poured
down over you.  Much in the same way, the kabbalists’ love for Jerusalem is because of this love
he or she has for the downpour of energy in this place.

The more violence, hatred, and death that is present in Israel, the less Light can flow into the
rest of the world.  If we want peace in our lives and peace in the world, we have to be concerned
about contributing to peace in Israel.

So you ask, “What can I do to help?”  The kabbalists have taught us the power of a spiritual
deed to reach deep into the core of our being - where we are all one, and the physical distance
between us is of no consequence. At this core, a positive deed on our part will help bring
freedom and peace to a brother and sister in distress.  During past conflicts in the Land of
Israel, and during times of danger, the kabbalists made practical suggestions of actions that
would draw the protection of the Light to our own lives, to Israel, and to the world.

Let us not underestimate the power of good! With a single spiritual action on our part, here and
now, we can each contribute toward the victory and safety of our brothers and sisters in the
Middle East.

Take a minute to do one or more of the following. You can make a difference!

Recite a Prayer/meditation - Lamnatzeach

The following Psalm is particularly effective when recited in times of distress. Psalm 20 is
received for oneself or a loved on who is suffering or in danger.

It is not necessary to recite this during the death anniversary of a righteous sage, on Rosh
Chodesh (the New Moon), or any special holidays. It’s purpose is to help us draw extra energy
during times of trouble. If the extra energy is already available such as the above connection
times, there is no need to recite this.

Scan and Study Zohar

The Zohar is the most powerful tool during times of trouble. Simply scanning the letters, even if
one does not know Aramaic or Hebrew creates a protective aura around us and our loved ones.
Below you will find a Zohar portion that is particularly effective during times of distress.

Charity and acts of sharing & kindness

Put a coin in a charity box, give a gift of money to a fellow in need or to a charitable cause, or
extend a helping hand to someone who needs it.  Do it with the intention of revealing Light and
love in the world through your act of sharing.  The Zohar tells us that charity has the power to
save a human even from death!  There is no more powerful way to reveal Light than by
transforming ourselves into “Beings of Sharing” during times of darkness.
